Translation from Spanish to English by T.A. Zuur and The Language Workshop ......................................... Received: 16-05-11 Accepted: 11-10-11 Abstract Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) originate in the wall of the digestive tract from the esophagus to the anus. Approximately 25% of gastric GISTs are clinically malignant. Most often they metastasize to the liver, less commonly to soft tissues and bone. The clinical case of a patient with a gastric GIST, liver and unusual cranial metastasis is presented.

Gastric Calcifying Fibrous Tumor Resembling Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor: A Case Report
Calcifying fibrous tumor (CFT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor, affecting children and young adults with a predilection for the soft tissue and the abdominal cavity. CFT of the tubular gastrointestinal tract is very rare with less than 20 cases of gastric CFTs reported in English literature. This benign hypocellular fibrosclerotic calcifying lesion can resemble other spindle cell tumors particularl...

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor is a rare tumor which arises from the whole gastrointestinal tracts and most of it is detected in the stomach. It is uncommon with small intestine originated gastrointestinal stromal tumor and more uncommon with lymphatic metastasis. We experienced an unusual case of the small bowel gastrointestinal stromal tumor during experimental autopsy. Two primary tumors wit...
متن کاملSkull Metastasis of Gastric Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor Successfully Managed by Surgery
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are rare, but are the most common mesenchymal neoplasm of the gastrointestinal tract. The most common sites of metastasis are liver and peritoneum, while bone metastasis is rare. We report on a patient with skull metastasis after seven years of treatment with imatinib for metastatic GIST. She underwent metastasectomy consisting of craniectomy with excisio...

Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST) are the common mesenchymal tumors of gastrointestinal tract. They can display benign and malignant clinical behavior. The most common metastasis sites of malignant stromal tumor are liver, peritoneum, lung and bones. Metastasis to breast is extremely rare. Here, we present a case of GIST with liver, bone, lymph node and breast metastasis by reviewing the l...
متن کاملGastrointestinal stromal tumor of the stomach with lymph node metastasis
BACKGROUND Lymph node (LN) metastasis of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) is unusual. Unlike gastric adenocarcinomas, routine lymphadenectomy is not recommended unless there is no suspicion for LN metastasis. Herein, we report a case of GIST of the stomach with LN metastasis treated with distal gastrectomy with perigastric LN dissection followed by adjuvant imatinib therapy. CASE PRESEN...
